Most people, by and large, previously expected to hear the truth, or some semblance of it, in daily life. We would generally expect this from each other, but also from public media and authorities such as governments or international agencies set up ostensibly for our benefit. Society cannot function in a coherent and stable way without it, as so much in our lives requires us to place trust in others.
To navigate the complexity of existence, we generally look for guidance to certain trusted sources, freeing up time...
Our history is a story of endless wars. Who remembers the Battle of Fleurus, 1794?
If anyone says they’ve studied human history, they often find that what they’ve studied is nothing more than wars and treaties and alliances.
Moreover, as a male, a lot of male rituals revolve around pecking orders and competition and, well, war.
Unsurprisingly, I grew up reading Classics Illustrated (which were all about wars) and Landmark Classics (the same), and watching Winslow of the Navy, etc., etc. Later in life I was gripped by the question, what could cause...
We see a world where our true history has been revealed to all; where people everywhere have realized that we have been living within a historical containment which has kept us closed off from the rest of the cosmos; and where we now have access to the actual events that occurred prior to the "quarantine" which led to our narrow view of the past.
Consequently, we now have an accurate account of "The Bigger Picture", a picture that includes humanity's true place in the Universe and the true part we play in a history that encompasses...
Most things that most people believe about politics and world events are wrong. Many things that people think they know about history and gender relations are wrong too.
To be sure, there’s been a concerted effort to achieve this, such as the mockingbird media. Operation mockingbird is a CIA program to turn US news into propaganda. It started during the cold war but it’s ongoing, albeit now under different names. William Casey, former director of the...

We live in an age of conspiracy theories and fake news. From mind control to trackers in vaccines to lizards ruling the world; we can easily disprove most theories, but occasionally, a theory turns out to be true. Judging by the following, perhaps we should take conspiracy theorists more seriously next time. Here’s some of the craziest conspiracy theories that turned out to be true.
7 of the Craziest Conspiracy Theories That Were True
1. Governments test deadly nerve gas on citizens without telling them
If I asked you to name the smartest person who ever lived, you might say Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, or someone like Stephen Hawking. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t know a guy called William James Sidis, and yet, this man had an estimated IQ of 250 to 300.
The Tragic Story of William James Sidis
William James Sidis was a mathematical genius. With an IQ of 250 to 300, he was described by the Washington Post as a ‘boy wonder’. He read the New York Times...
When we think of Santa Claus history, we imagine a rather rotund, merry, and jolly old figure. We can picture him in his red and white suit, his twinkling eyes peering over a pair of half spectacles. There’s nothing dark about this benevolent and familiar Christmas character, or is there?
If you like a dark tale or two, rich in legend and superstition, then sit back, because I have some stories to tell. Perhaps after I’ve finished, you might not want your children to believe in Santa Claus after all.

If you’ve taken the Myers-Briggs Personality Type test, you may have found that you fit into the ‘INTP’ category. This stands for introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. But what does it mean to have this personality type? And who can you relate to in popular culture? Let’s take a look at famous INTPs in more detail. We will try and uncover who from literature, science, and history fits into this pretty rare category.
Would you describe yourself as an optimist or a pessimist? Perhaps you’re more of an idealist? Maybe you think it’s important to see the reality of a situation? In any case, is it better to be one or the other? The Stockdale Paradox states that a mixture of realism and optimism is the best way forward.
What Is the Stockdale Paradox and Who Was James Stockdale?
The Stockdale paradox is named after the high-ranking naval officer Admiral James Stockdale. Stockdale fought in the...
Tricking people has become a normal pastime on the first of April. However, the history of April Fools’ Day is more interesting than that.
For as long as I can remember, my friends and family have been playing tricks and lying to me on the first of April. Some of these tricks have been pretty shocking and frightening. But the origin of April Fools’ Day is much more than telling someone a lie and watching them “freak out”.
With the current pandemic firmly entrenched and the death toll rising, it’s not surprising that people are looking to history for answers. However, if the strange bird-like masks worn by bubonic plague doctors are anything to go on, we’re in trouble.
Some of the worst pandemics in history have taken millions of lives. What lessons have we learned from these horrible events?
Understanding the history of the worst pandemics requires the ability to differentiate between the epidemic and pandemic in the definition. First of all, the epidemic is an outbreak of the disease on a large scale. The pandemic is much the same in that definition, but it tends to travel globally, infecting people in multiple countries.

The holiday of Thanksgiving may seem straightforward with turkey and stuffing but has an uglier side that many are unaware of… The origin of Thanksgiving is more complicated than just the story of the pilgrims and Native Americans celebrating at Plymouth rock. It gets a bit darker, and peace ultimately didn’t win out.
This will be a look back at the Thanksgiving origin and the real story behind the story.
Setting The Stage For The Origin Of Thanksgiving
The story still starts with the pilgrims but more because of the tragic circumstances they were facing. The winter...
Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram conducted his famous series of experiments widely known as Obedience Study almost 60 years ago. The ethics of the experiment have since been subject to criticism. However, it raised important questions about the power of authority in achieving obedience.
In this article, we take a look at the Milgram Experiment and what it reveals about human nature. We will also look at the counter-arguments which criticize Milgram’s ethics and dispute his results.
What is it about fairy tales that captivate the imaginations of children? Could it be that underneath the thin veneer of fiction lies a much darker truth to the tales? Did you know that the most famous fairy tales are based on gruesome real-life stories? Here are just a few:
Famous Fairy Tales and the Creepy Real Stories Behind Them
Bluebeard
I loved this fairy tale as a child. So much so that I would beg my sister to read it to me every night before bed. I knew it off by heart and sometimes she...
Saudade is a Portuguese word. Its meaning is so complex that cannot be translated into one single word. It has a notoriously complicated definition which can be difficult to explain. There is no English word that it translates to, instead, we use entire phrases, to sum up, its depth.
Saudade is often thought to be a kind of nostalgia, but even that isn’t quite right to describe this profound emotion. When you feel saudade, you are experiencing a deep and profound emotion. This emotion is more akin to yearning, pining and longing.
Angels of mercy are known by two definitions. One is considered a benevolent watchful spirit, and the other a bringer of death.
The angel of mercy I refer to today is the one who brings death by my own hands. They’re not winged creatures sent by God, no. They’re more like hospital employees killing patients while playing “nurse”. And yet, they are registered nurses, received accreditation and diplomas, and work in the medical field sometimes for decades. But they are also angels of mercy or rather angels of DEATH.
“Remember remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.” Everyone in the UK celebrates Guy Fawkes Day on the 5th of November. We huddle around bonfires. We gaze into the night’s sky to marvel at dazzling fireworks.
In fact, since the Gunpowder Plot, we still have a tradition where royal bodyguards will search underneath the Houses of Parliament whenever a King or Queen is due to visit.
Who was Guy Fawkes?
But just who was Guy Fawkes? We all have a vague idea about his life; he was the man who tried to blow up...

As we head deeper into Fall, our thoughts turn to Halloween and the spooky celebrations October brings. Halloween is a fun and exciting time, but in the chaos of the festivities, we might be losing touch with its true meaning.
The meaning of Halloween is somewhat difficult to pinpoint. This spooky holiday is rooted in traditions and celebrations from all sorts of cultures and religions throughout history. The modern version we know and love today is the result of these evolving together over centuries.
There are many different stories that explain Halloween’s true meaning, but they all have one...
Halloween brings jack-o-lanterns, candy, and decorations, but, do we really know anything about this holiday’s origin?
The history of the beginning of Halloween is debated among many people, groups and spiritualists. So, you might say that Halloween has more than one origin. The historical origins are usually considered the absolute truth and beginning of the traditions of this holiday, but then so are other absolute origins of this holiday.
The truth is, Halloween is a mixture of many traditions and beliefs, spanning almost the entirety of Europe and later into the United States. But let’s...
Have you ever walked into a tiny room and thought ‘I couldn’t swing a cat in here?’ Have you ever ‘rubbed someone up the wrong way?’ These are examples of phrases we use all the time, but do you know their origins?
I love words. I love metaphors, words that come from foreign languages, I love how words shape our minds, how we use them to influence people, they’re just so powerful.
Lately, I’ve been looking into the origins of phrases and have...
There is an intensely eerie quality in cases of mysterious disappearances. The loss of people as a result of violent crime is one thing. But an unexplained absence is on a completely different level.
In mysterious disappearances, it is the silence of the empty space where the person used to be, and the lack of explanation to help us piece the events together that chills us.
Mysterious disappearances defy the logical chain of events in missing persons’ cases. Consequently, they make us feel intrigued yet powerless.
Of all the Myers-Briggs Personality Types, INFJs are the rarest.
It stands to reason that famous people with INFJ personality are going to be pretty remarkable individuals.

Introversion

Paper currency has led to the collapse of almost every economy that has tried to institute a fiat currency to trade for goods and services. It’s not looking very well for the once mighty dollar, either.
Throughout history, attempts at using fiat currency, even today, has failed. When the government prints fiat money that isn’t backed by any value, disaster inevitably ensues. Still, the long history of failed fiat currency is being ignored by today’s money printers.
At the start of the first century, the Roman denarius was a coin...

As I write this, threats to our lands, our environment, our oceans, and all life on earth seem greater than ever before. As I write this, water protectors in North Dakota are getting beaten, arrested, tear gassed and jailed. As I write this, many folks are having difficulty understanding the decisions of so many Americans, decisions that potentially threaten our lands. As I write this, community after community find themselves in a place of needing to take a stand to those with more power and resources to defend their rights to clean water, personal safety, and a...
This is the ultimate evidence that Giants existed on Earth in the past If you are looking for evidence supporting the existence of giant beings, look no further. In this article, we have compiled over 15 newspapers – some of them dating back up to a hundred years– where newspapers write about discoveries that could alter the course of history.
You would think that discoveries like that of giant skeletons would be something extremely well controlled and not allowed to end up in the newspapers, mainly because the...
“The eyes of that species of extinct Giant, whose bones fill the Mounds of America, have gazed on Niagara as ours do now.” –Former President Abraham Lincoln, Niagara Falls, 1848.
In the last couple of decades, much of the population on Earth has firmly come to believe that history has been told only partially. We have come to realize that there are numerous pieces missing from the puzzle and that mankind’s origin and the past are far more enigmatic than many scholars are willing to...
